In light of Governor Cooper’s state of emergency declaration and guidance regarding canceling or postponing large gatherings in an effort to limit the spread of COVID-19, this special event from the NC African American Heritage Commission in partnership with the NC Office of State Archaeology and the Friends of South Asheville Cemetery has been postponed.

While we are disappointed not to be able to offer this experience, the health and safety of our stakeholders and guests, volunteers and staff is always our first priority. This event will be rescheduled for the fall, and we will share a new date at a future time.

Join local and state experts for a hands-on workshop to learn how to preserve, protect, record, care for and engage with historic African American cemeteries.*

  • Looking Forward: The Future of Cemetery Preservation
  • Got a Cemetery? The Office of State Archaeology can help!
  • Community Engagement and the South Asheville Cemetery
