Service Beauty Parlor was listed in the Green Book as “Service—619 Devereaux St.” under “Beauty Parlors” in Goldsboro in 1950. The business at this address was listed as “Raynard’s—619 Devereaux St.” under “Beauty Parlors” in Goldsboro from 1951-1954. Raynard is a misspelling and should be “Raynor.” The business was actually located at 619 ½ Devereaux according to city directories. ¹

Service Beauty Parlor (also known as Raynor’s Beauty Salon) was located at 619 ½ Devereaux Street. The salon was open for a brief time, at most from 1949-1951. Eugene A. Thornton, owner of Thornton’s Barber Shop and Teenage Club, lived at 619 Devereaux. Raynor’s advertised itself as providing “prompt and courteous service.” ²

Raynor’s Beauty Salon was owned by Helen Raynor. Raynor was born in North Carolina in 1920. She was listed at 215 Bright Street in the 1950-1951 city directory for Goldsboro and was enumerated in the home of Charles and Lizzie Austin at 205 Spruce Street in the 1950 United States Federal Census. No other records of her time in Goldsboro have been located. ³
