Lacy’s Beauty Shop was not listed with an address in the Green Book but was located in Bladenboro. The business has not been located in newspapers or other historical records. The only African American woman with a name similar to Lacy in the 1950 Census for Bladenboro was Leacy Lion; she was enumerated as a homemaker.2
A few African American beauty shop operators were found in the 1950 census. They were: Edna Ruffin, who owned a beauty parlor; Marie Georgie, who worked as a beauty operator; and Francis Singletery, who worked as a beauty operator.3
