Leigh's (Leigh's Beauty Parlor)
Leigh’s Beauty Parlor was listed in the Green Book as “Leigh’s—Route No. 1” under “Beauty Parlors” in Hallsboro from 1947-1955. A street number was not provided.1
Leigh’s Beauty Parlor was located on Route No. 1 in Hallsboro, North Carolina. Little information has been uncovered about this Green Book business. The only beautician found in Bogue and Lake Waccamaw (the nearest enumeration districts to Hallsboro, which was a small, unincorporated area) who appeared to own her own shop was Marceline Godwin Heath, who was 28 years old at the time of the 1950 census. She lived on Red Bug Road (located in Hallsboro) with her husband, Linzie Knoyed Heath, who was a grocery store manager.2
