Bond’s Luncheonette appeared in the Green Book from 1959-1962. It was owned by Rosetta Lewis Bond. An exact street address for the restaurant was not given in the Green Book; city directory records indicate that it was located at 111 E. Granville Street. The luncheonette was listed in the Green Book as “Bond’s Luncheonette----Granville St.” in Windsor.1

Bond’s Luncheonette was owned by Bertie County native Rosetta Lewis Bond. She was born on March 20, 1931, in Indian Springs, the daughter of Lewis Turner Bond and Sadie V. Gilliam. Bond attended high school at Mary Potter Academy, a boarding high school in Oxford, North Carolina, and graduated alongside her older brother, Weldon Randolph Bond, in 1949. At Mary Potter she was voted “most attractive” and hinted at her future business endeavors with her senior quote: “Success is a ladder which cannot be climbed with your hands in your pockets.”

Bond’s first marriage was to a divorcee, Greensboro pharmacist Kermit H. McNair. Her second marriage was to Charlie Caswell Outlaw, whom she married in 1957 and divorced in 1960. Following the divorce she continued to run the luncheonette at 111 E. Granville Street in Windsor and resided in Indian Springs. By 1962, the restaurant had been purchased by Dollie B. Wesson and renamed Dollie’s Quick Lunch.3

Bond remarried again and passed away in 1981 in Newark, New Jersey. She resided in Bertie County and went by the name Rosetta Bond Anderson at the time of her death.4
